This year has been a great year for me in make up. I’ve really got to switch and change my collection to discover the products that I love. I begun to experiment more this year and try new things that branch away from my usual products and that really helped me to find new products that I simply couldn’t live without! Although, this year, I’ve told myself to stop experimenting with new products but to experiment with the products that I currently have. My makeup obsession can get too much sometimes and having too much makeup is ridiculous for me. Plus, looking from the hygienic perspective, makeup does have an expiry date and it would be nice to get the most of the product before it goes bad. Also, I’ve hit pan on a few products this year and it’s oddly satisfying. With my blog getting underway now, I really want to start making posts that could help people pick up some tricks that I’ve learnt along the way. So, this requires me to look back at my products and how I use them effectively. Especially since I’m a firm believer that you can get the most out of a product no matter how cheap or expensive it is.
Lorac Contour palette
For a while I was debating on which Contour Palette to get, I was first tempted to get the ABH contour palette but I decided to wait it out to see what other brands would bring out. Then, Kat Von D’s contour palette caught my eye and I was very very close to buying it until Lorac brought one out. Having previous happy experiences with the quality of their eyeshadows; I felt confident that the quality of their contour palette would be perfect for me. It was more than perfect for me. Although I get the least use out of the yellow highlight and dark contour, I still use this everyday for a variety of contouring looks. But, it’s not like I don’t get any use out of those shades at all, I use the dark contour as an eyeshadow and I mix the yellow and beige highlight to brighten my undereyes. I’ve already hit pan on the light contour since I use this every single day – I hope someday I’ll be able to purchase that shade separately.
Nars ita brush
I firstly hesitated buying this brush for a while, I knew it was a lot of money but people really raved about it and I heard so many good things about it. So, I took the plunge and brought one. I definitely don’t regret my decision; this brush has completely changed my contouring technique. I get more of a “chiseled” cheekbone appearance that gives the perfect amount of structure to my face but it doesn’t look too harsh since this brush blends out the product seamlessly. It’s pretty versatile; I use it everyday sometimes to create a natural contour and other days I use it to create a harsh contour. I love this brush and if you’re on the fence about buying it – I recommend that you take the plunge!
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow pomade
This brow product instantly became my favourite. I used to love the Benefit Brow Zings until I chose to give the ABH Brow pomade a try! It’s really worth every penny and it really does live up to its hype. I love how you can use it lightly to create a natural brows but then you can build it up to create fierce brows. It dries out after a while, but if you add a few drops of baby oil, it’ll soften up and work like brand new. I’m using the shade Brunette but I want to try out soft brown. I love using it with the C225 Mini Liner by Crown Brush to create a perfect thin line for precise application.
Mac paint pot in Soft Ochre
Now that I have this product and I’ve learned how to get the most out of it, I don’t think I could ever live without it! I love using this everyday as an eyeshadow base. I would cover my eyelids with it and then set it with the beige highlight in the Lorac colour palette. Ever since I’ve been doing this, I haven’t dealt with any creasing and my eyeshadow really stays put all day. It also corrects all the discolouring on my eyelids too. I don’t think I could go back and use any other primer. It works so perfectly for me.
Girlactik Lip Paint in demure
This is a shade that I would wear over and over once Autumn had begun. It’s a gorgeous dark dusty rose with slight brown undertones. This was the shade that made me love brown toned lipsticks. After wearing this colour so much, I begun to deviate more towards brown tones and I really did step out of my comfort zone. I can’t forget to mention the beautiful formula of this liquid lipstick that I would recommend to anyone. It’s the most smoothest, comfortablest and non-drying liquid lipstick I’ve ever used. In addition to this, throughout the day this fades perfectly and doesn’t leave any awkward colour on your lips. I really want to pick up more shades by Girlactik soon.
Mac Velvet Teddy
This year really did have a huge focus around Kylie Jenner’s lips and I felt like it was so difficult to escape it – everywhere I went someone would be talking about her lip colour or whether she has lip injections. It was hard to ignore it. But, I can’t exactly complain too much since all this hype lead me to discover the Mac shade in Velvet Teddy. It’s apparently the lipstick that Kylie uses but I use it too and I absolutely love it. I love the texture of Mac matte lipsticks since they’re not too drying on the lips and they apply so smoothly too. This shade is really gorgeous, I would describe it as a beige-nude and it’s definitely a shade that would work for a large range of skin tones! Ever since I finally got my hands on it, I’ve been wearing it non-stop. It’s my perfect go-to everyday shade.
Makeup Geek eyeshadows
I got rid of a lot of palettes this year, I realised I had got to the point where I was palette obsessed and I owned way too many than I needed. So I sold most of them and kept 4; Lorac Mega Pro, Lorac Pro 1, Stila Eyes Are The Window Shadow Soul & Too faced Semi-Sweet. These were the perfect 4 palettes for me until I decided to take the plunge and try out Makeup Geek eyeshadows. I begun with a 9 pan palette before expanding to a 27 pan palette. I made no regrets. My MUG palette is something I reach for everyday! I wrote a blog post on my MUG palette, if you were curious to know what shades I have. These shadows are the best, most blendable eyeshadows I’ve ever used!
Estee lauder double wear foundation
I love this foundation and I really wish I could wear this everyday. I love how it creates a flawless finish without looking cakey. It’s completely full coverage, that can easily be blended out. Lasts all day long with no patchy-ness and minimal shine. When it comes down to it, this is the best foundation I’ve ever used and it’s perfect for my oily skin! Also, the shade for me (1C0 Shell) is my perfect shade; it doesn’t make me look ghostly pale and it’s not too yellow or pink! This is definitely something I’ll be repurchasing over and over; seeing as I’m on my last drops of this, I definitely need to dash out and buy a new one soon!
